"A Sleep & A Forgetting" out 2/14/12.

It’s November! And Islands has lots of great things stirring up for the new year! We can’t spill the beans yet, but here are a few fun tidbits to keep your eyes and ears occupied until we can!

The Sound It Resounds just put out this nice little piece about Nick and his thoughts on one of his favorite albums (Curtis Mayfield’s Classic Debut Album), which you can read here. Or, if you’re not into the whole reading thing, you can listen to and watch it here:

That’s not all! Islands recently wrapped up recording a Guitar Center podcast, hosted by Nic Harcourt, which you can stream here . During the podcast, Guitar Center shot this video of the guys playing Wave Forms live!

Now for the most exciting part of this post (for you Angelenos, at least) – the band just announced a local show at The Troubadour on Tuesday, January 21st! The show is all ages; doors are at 8pm and you can buy your tickets starting at 1pm PST on November 21st here!

– team Islands

Islands is excited to release their new video for “Wave Forms”. Directed by Strike Anywhere, the beautifully shot video follows Islands as they join a lone roller skater (Cory Zacharia) as he rolls through the streets of Lancaster, California. Zacharia has been a recurring character in Mike Ott’s films, including Littlerock, Pearlblossom Highway and the upcoming Lake Los Angeles. Watch the video here.

Released earlier this year, “Wave Forms” has been hailed as the band’s “most concise and confident singles since Return To The Sea” and one of the highlights of Islands’ latest record Ski Mask. Released in September, Ski Mask is an album that’s equal parts beauty and venom. Percolating with the kind of polymorphous pop and hooky, left-of-center rock songs that have long been the band’s stock and trade, the album has been praised by critics as the band’s most ambitious to date.

Strike Anywhere is a production company and team of directors. Based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, their work includes commercials, feature films, and content for the Web and social media.

Last week, Islands released their fifth record Ski Mask on lead singer Nick Thorburn’s own label Manqué Music. Just one week out and the band is already being profiled in one of the most respected Rock n’ Roll documentary programs in the world.  Produced by Michael Cera for the YouTube network JASH (Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim and Eric, and Reggie Watts’), the video is an intimate look at the making of Ski Mask and features interviews with the movers, shakers and power players behind the band. Watch the short documentary here on the JASH Youtube Network.

Ski Mask has finally escaped into the world and Recordstoreday.com is celebrating with participating record stores, who have a special limited edition 7” single (a lucky few of you will get an autographed copy!) free with purchase, while they last. Speaking of which…Islands is playing an in-store at Amoeba Hollywood TODAY (9/17) at 6pm! Come by and listen to some live tunes, pick up the album and even have the band sign it for you!

If you’re not in LA, you can still check out Recordstoreday.com for a full list of independent retailers near you that’ll have Ski Mask and hopefully a few of those 7″s!

P.S. Don’t forget you can still snag a free download of Wave Forms, courtesy of eMusic, here.
